For many women, long, healthy hair is a desirable goal. They love the look and appeal that long hair provides. However, many women don’t thoroughly discuss how time-consuming and intentional the process is. While it might feel laborious at first, you can get results with an effective hair care process. Consider the following ways you can actively retain length as you maintain the health of your hair.
1. Scalp Cleansing
Your scalp is the breeding ground for healthy hair care. If you’re thoroughly cleansing your scalp, this will lead to build-up and a host of other problems. Plus, it’s important to note that it’s best to place shampoo on the scalp. As you wash and cleanse the scalp, the shampoo will travel down the length of the hair follicles. It’s counterproductive to cleanse the hair first. When you focus on the scalp, the hair will get cleansed.
If you feel like you’re experiencing a bit of build-up on your scalp, it’s a great idea to do an apple cider vinegar rinse on your hair and scalp. After mixing apple cider vinegar and cold water, let it sit in the refrigerator until it’s completely cold. After cleansing and conditioning the hair, pour the rinse over the hair and scalp. Allow it to sit in the hair for a few minutes before you rinse it out with water.
2. Deep Conditioning
To make the most out of the in-depth conditioning process, always incorporate heat. There are several ways to do this. Once you’ve washed and conditioned your hair, add the deep conditioning treatment to your strands. If you have a hair steamer, you can sit under it for proper treatment. The same is true for a hooded dryer.
Be sure to use a thin plastic shower cap before sitting under a hooded dryer. If you have a heated bonnet, use a plastic shower cap as well. If you don’t have any of those resources, throw a clean towel in the dryer for ten minutes. Once you’ve taken it out of the dryer, wrap it around your head while it’s hot. The heat allows the deep conditioning treatment to penetrate the follicles.
Even though you might not think it matters, your diet plays a significant role in the health of your hair. In addition to drinking lots of water, it’s best to eat foods that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and biotin. Great options include salmon, nuts (almonds, walnuts) and seeds (chia, flax). To support the diet you’re consuming, consume the best beauty supplements consistently.
4. Low Manipulation
Do your best to keep your hairstyles low-maintenance and straightforward. Your hair follicles are fragile. Constant combing and brushing will wear on your strands. Instead, try protective hairstyles like buns, sleek updos, and braids. Detangle with your fingers to make sure you’re gentle.
5. Scalp Massages
Scalp massages are excellent for increasing the blood flow underneath the scalp’s surface. To make the experience more powerful, use a few drops of essential oils that encourage hair growth. Options like tea tree oil, rosemary oil, and peppermint oil are incredibly stimulating. Before bedtime, massage the scalp each night for a few minutes.
6. Silk Pillow Cases and Linings
You spend at least 36 years of your entire life in bed. Since this is a significant amount of time, make sure your hair is protected during the process. Cotton naturally dries. Knowing this, sleep with a silk or satin bonnet each night. If you don’t like the idea of using a bonnet, use a silk or satin pillowcase for the same effect.
The health of your hair is essential. If you notice that you’re tempted to sacrifice health for length, your priorities are out of order. Focus on health first. The length will follow. Be patient with your process, as well. Before long, you’ll have the long, flowing, and healthy tresses you desire.
